Our Activities
Reading Club
Reading is one of the greatest predictors of school success. KCA is dedicated to helping and supporting their students by offering all grade levels the opportunity to enhance their reading skills. Students are broken into two groups and work alongside current teachers, volunteers and retired teachers to help them strengthen their reading abilities. These reading clubs are meant to supplement their normal reading curriculum and help make reading fun at no additional cost. The students participate in activities that make reading more fun and entertaining. Those who participate are given pizza perks and also can earn other rewards as a result. The reading club usually runs for one hour after school on Mondays and Tuesdays and students are given snacks to help boost their energy. We encourage all KCA students to participate as this is a school year program.
Math Club
The KCA Math Club is designed to help make math fun and exciting as it is the one skill that is used in real life and every day. It is offered during the first quarter of the year to allow students the opportunity to supplement their math curriculum and later during the third quarter of the year. We know that sometimes it can be straining on students as there are just so many subjects, but we believe in challenging KCA students to the next level. We provide free resources, fun games and activities for those in our math club. Some activities that we offer include cooking! Math can be fun when taught in an indirect way such as learning to use measuring cups to bake. Math club usually takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school until 4pm and is offered to students at no additional cost.
Recreational Activity
We offer indoor and outdoor recreational activities for students to have fun and participate together to build life skills that will help them into their next grade levels. We want to empower them to be confident and progress in their communication & listening skills, focus & self-control, and creativity & empathy. Some activities include swimming lessons, hiking (outdoor exploration), martial arts, team sports, and more. These activities introduce the students to life skills that can be applied in school, jobs, and life experiences. They learn the value of accountability and increase their decision-making skills, and courage towards reaching individual and/or team goals.
